Blogging with Intention

Living a little more intentional

I love blogging, I really do, it’s one of those hobbies I’ve kept going for years and since I’m a notorious starter and a not-so good- continuer/finisher the fact that I’ve kept a blog for the last 7 years goes to show how much I love it (I had a photography/personal blog for years before this one).

Though, lately I’ve been thinking about living with intention; I’ve got to blame it on starting The Simple Kind of Life, it’s really making me analyze every area of my life (in a good way) and one thing I know I want to start doing is being more intentional with my blogging in the future.

I wanted to share a little of how I am hoping it is going to look here:

FEWER POSTS BUT BETTER QUALITY
It can be easy to get into the trap of trying to post every day but I find that for me that involves a lot more fluff than I like on my blog. By November I hope to blog here on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s. This will also involve discontinuing the Jack of All Trades link up, which will be running till the end of October. I believe reducing my posting to 3x a week will help increase the quality of the posts that I write.

SPONSORSHIP CHANGES
I’ve already made some changes on my sponsorship page but they will only take place in November. I will be taking less sponsors each month and reducing the options available (starting in November the elite and standard ads will be the only options available). In addition, I will not be continuing the monthly sponsorship giveaway that I have been including with sponsorships (next month will be the last one). That is not to say that I will never do another giveaway but it will not be done the way they have been in the past. (Though, if you are interested I do still have a couple of ad spaces available for next month which do include links into the giveaway, you can check out the featured or regular ads at discounted rates here.)

I’ve had a few people express their sadness at the announcement the the Jack of All Trades link up will be ending at the end of next month, I do have hopes to start a new link up, I’m aiming for the beginning of the new year, so watch for that.

Maybe you will notice the changes here and maybe you won’t. I’m hoping this will help me to feel better about the blogging that I am doing, free up some time for working on The Simple Kind of Life and of course just give me more time to spend doing other things that I love with my family.

I enjoy blogging enough that it wouldn’t surprise me if I went back to posting 5x a week in the future but for now, for this season, it’s time to slow down a little.

How do you stay intentional when it comes to blogging?

Does less posts mean that you earn less from sponsored ads?

This is something I struggle with…there feels like an invisible pressure to have incredible content all the time. Sometimes I stop writing for a while just to clear my head. I would like to post on Mondays and Fridays but for now, I’m posting as I feel I have something of value to share. In the blogging world, you can feel like a drop in the bucket and it can be discouraging. But it’s always going back and remembering why I blog that helps me stay grounded and keep going forward.

I love the last two sentences Olivia! 😉 I totally agree 🙂

i have felt the same exact way and have gone down to posting 3 times a week. life has increased in busyness that i just need that extra time to live life & be intentional with people. so you will find nothing but grace for me 🙂

i am sad that the link up is going away, but you’ve gotta do what’s best for you & if it doesn’t make sense anymore then it just doesn’t make sense anymore!

I think making changes in how you blog is important, that’s what keeps it alive! 🙂

Good for you! I think each of us have to stay true to what our “gut” is telling us to do. Going against what you feel you should be doing only makes you feel miserable. Looking forward to all of your posts.

Love the direction you’re taking with blogging! I think intentional blogging is really important. I was just chatting with a friend the other day that sometimes I feel like blogging takes TOO much work + I worry the connections/friendships I’m forming aren’t getting as much attention as promotion/social media. Good for you to take a step back + re-assess what works for you + what doesn’t. I’ll miss the link-up!

I totally applaud you Chantel! I will miss the Jack of All Trades, but look forward to seeing what may be in store in the future 🙂 living with intention has been something that I have been learning lately too. can’t wait to follow all the changes! 🙂

I wrote a similar post a few months ago where I decided to focus on quality over quantity of my posts. When I first started blogging I posted 5 days a week, which was great for a season because it established a discipline of creating content on a daily basis. However, I felt similarly to you– too much fluff at times. I wanted to give myself a little bit more time a space to focus on my true intention for my blog. I feel that blogging 2-3 times a week is just perfect for me and I feel a lot more freedom in it instead of obligation. However, I will join the crew of people sad to bid farewell to Jack of all Trades- I always find great quality blogs through it.

Chantel, I wish I had known about you sooner. I love your blog and unfortunately have missed out on the awesomeness that is The-Jack-Of-All-Trades. Thank you for this post! I have been wondering if I have been keeping myself at getting better as a writer due to writing every day of the week. It might be time to switch to 3x. Thank you for your inspiration!

I will miss Jack of All Trades, but I totally get it! It would be too crazy to do it all, and you’re right… quality > quantity.

I am constantly battling myself regarding content for my blog when it comes to the stuff OTHER than photographs. There are so many things I want to write about, but at the same time, I want it to be specifically a photography blog. I don’t want to have to worry about things I’ve written in the past once I have clients actually visiting my site. I actually have another domain that I am debating on setting up for my ‘professional photography site’ but I just can’t decide!
