thrifting confessions: raeca’s clothes

It’s no secret to my friends and family that I love shopping at thrift stores. One of my favorite things to buy there is clothes for Raeca. I love shopping there for so many reasons . . .

* she is going through a growth spurt right now and why would I want to pay $20 for a pair of pants or a shirt?
* it saves me money!
* she’s 2 years old -the chance of her clothes getting stained is very likely!

I have some rules for myself when buying second hand:

* I try to only buy items that are $2 or less or if it is something that I really love . . .
* I won’t spend more than $5  (things like winter jackets would be an exception because they are just more expensive)
* I try to buy some items that will fit her now and some that will fit her in the future
* If I don’t love it, I don’t buy it

I searched though my photos to show some of the items I have bought from thrift stores for Raeca. I might have to get her to do a little fashion show one day so I can take photos of some of the other clothes.

This skirt I bought in the spring, I think it was $.99 or $1.99:

This tank top was $.99, it is actually for next summer because it is too big but she wanted to wear it a few months ago:

Another $.99 shirt:

I believe this shirt was $3:

Haha, I couldn’t pass up this $.99 shirt -it’s a flashback to the late 80’s/early 90’s!

I found this little sweater dress just last week for $3. Obviously her leggings are getting too short, evidence of that growth spurt!

Do you like to thrift? What are your favorite things to buy?

with love,
Chantel

    Ahhh I LOVE thrift stores and yard sales! Where I live yard sales are better because they tend to be cheaper! I love the thrill of finding good deals:) love this post!!! love Katie

      Yard sales are pretty uncommon here unfortunately. I’ve seen some photos online of LA yard sales and flea markets -I really would like to go to some one day!

    My boys grew up in second hand clothing. I’m finding it more difficult to do with the girls as it is time consuming and I never seem to find what I’m looking for. Love that grey sweater!

      Yes, it is a little time consuming, I guess that’s the advantage of only having to take one kid along with me!

    I am all about thrifting (or hand-me-downs!) What a fun post! I have lately been finding lots of great crafting items at the thrift store… old frames to make into chalkboards, wooden candlesticks to paint, wool sweaters to felt, etc, etc. But the clothes are fun too 🙂

      Oh yes, it’s great for crafting supplies too, I want to write a post on that! I’ve gotten frames and candlesticks there before and also some fabric and lace for various projects. Plus old hymn books for the canvases I make. All this talk about thrifting makes me want to go shopping . . .

    Ahhhh she is Such a precious Doll!!!!
    I love thrifting – I grew up with clothes either on clearance, from goodwill or hand me downs from church friends – and now I love thrifting and bargains – I just scored 3 sweaters for $10 at a local shop and they were fancy retail label ones – <3 and Raeca will probably have a great appreciation when she grows up – plus kids outgrow clothes TOO fast to spend a fortune 😉

    Did I tell you how cute I think R is ? 😉

      Thanks Janice -I think she’s pretty adorable too! Isn’t it such a rush to get a good deal? 3 sweaters for $10 sounds awesome!!!
