a little adoption update

Last week Jared and I finished our adoption training courses required by our agency and mailed the certificates down to Georgia. They got their this week and today they updated our online adoption portal, we have now been moved on to the next step in the process: referral. We still don’t know when it will be, probably not for another 4 months or so but there are so many unknows in the adoption process it could be quicker and it could be longer.

A few people have been asking about the financial side in the last few weeks so I thought I would share where we are at with that. As of right now we are paid up to this point in the process, however, once we receive our referral we will need to pay about $10,000-$15,000 in order to accept our referral (the exact number is dependent on if we get referred one or two children and how long they have been in care). We don’t have the full amount to accept the referral yet but we are getting there. Thankfully the school year began again in September and I have been able to get some subbing days in.

This week we had the opportunity to meet a sweet couple from the area who are adopting their second child from the DRC, I love how this adoption is creating so many new relationships in our lives.

And on an unrelated note, Raeca and I went birthday shopping yesterday. Somehow she didn’t notice her huge gift right there in the cart. I can’t believe she is turning two next week!

with love,
Chantel

On the weekend someone asked me if we had adopted Ephraim. I always laugh a little inside when people ask, especially when they have seen both me and Jared; two people as white as us don’t usually produce children as brown as Ephraim. But I understand the question, it’s a polite and safe way to…

  • Home

Well, we made it home! We are finally spending Christmas with this little guy. The one we’ve been praying for long before he was even born. I mentioned on Instagram that he didn’t know it but he is home, but truthfully, I think he does know it. He is so happy to be here, yesterday…

  • off and away!

We did it! Earlier this week we sent off all our papers down to Social Services! Now it’s just a matter of waiting for our social worker to get back from holidays (not happening for another week and a half) so he can process our papers and send them off to our agency! At that…

  • three months waiting

Last week was month three on our agency’s wait list. There isn’t really anything new to report from last month, and there probably won’t be anything new until we get our referral but I still like making a point of noting the day. It reminds me of when I was pregnant with Raeca and constantly…

  1. It’s so cute that toddlers don’t notice those things…very handy! Thanks for sharing your adoption process with us. It’s certainly quite an ordeal! It must be hard, living with the uncertainty. I’ll be praying for you guys. And so cool that you met another couple! It’s amazing how God leads us to others 🙂
